Educational Support & Tutoring

Our Approach TO CARE is HOLISTIC: Educational Support is important

At the Doylestown Teen & Parent Therapy Center, we believe that total healing comes when we have worked to support all areas of life. For many adolescents, teens and young adults who struggle with issues of mental health, school (including college) can feel incredibly overwhelming. That's why we have included it into our integrative model of care.

Our work begins with Ellen Cuthrell, M.S., Educational Therapist and Certified Life Coach. Ellen meets with the parents to discuss the problems their child is having with school.  Parents are asked to provide copies of grades, teacher comments, and any reports/evaluations that have been conducted through the years.

After careful review, Ellen comes back to the parents with an individual customized program.   Ellen and her team will work with parents to decide how often your child needs meetings and how much support via text, virtual meetings and phone calls your child needs in between sessions to get the job done.

Our Executive Functioning Coaches and Tutors will manage your students school portal and put together a calendar for each week and a plan for success.

If the plan is to keep your child home our team will design a plan that includes academics, physical activity, time for hobbies and downtime just doing nothing.

If your child has ADD/ADHD and you are interested in medication Ellen can connect your with a therapist and psychiatrist that she can collaborate with so your child gets the therapy and medication they need to achieve their academic goals.

If your child has a learning disability, Ellen will jump in with the parents meet with the school/teachers and administrators to get the support needed while in school and she will create a plan after school.

If your child has a hard time staying at school during the day because they want to be virtual, Ellen and her team can guide you in setting up the best possible outcome for this goal.  Ellen can advise parents how not to collude or enable leaving school.

Ellen CuthRelL, M.S., Educational Therapist and Certified Life Coach

Ellen works with middle school, high school,  and college students who are in need of an Educational Coach to assist  them with executive functioning, time management, calendar organization,  planning ahead for exams and papers, and tutoring.  If a therapist is  involved in the case Ellen works along side the therapist, observing  HIPPA compliance, to help the student with coping skills during her time  with them for anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities and  lack of motivation in general. Ellen will keep your child on their toes  and get the work done. Ellen has vast experience working with schools to  help students get the most appropriate support possible.

Ellen  works with students who are participating in homeschooling, to help the  family organize and choose a stimulating homeschool program whether it  be an online program, or an online program combined with college courses  even for high school students.

Ellen  also works as an emotional coach for adolescents, men and women who are  suffering from depression, anxiety, or relationship issues.

Ellen has a B.A. in Psychology, a B.A. in English and has a Master's in Education.

Micah Fischer, B.S., Tutor

Micah is our mathematics tutor.  He holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.   His day job is as an Aerospace Engineer.  His true passion is working with kids and their families to motivate them and bring out the avid learner in them while tutoring  to work at their fullest potential.  Outside of tutoring and his full time job Micah spends his time with his wife and son and the family dog Malcolm.  He has a warm and engaging approach with his students and his students are known to refer him to their friends because of his relaxed style. If his clients are not motivated, Blake has been known to get them up and moving, stretching, taking a walk together (whether virtually on zoom or in-person), or doing some breathing exercises to calm down and open their minds for the most effective tutoring session. Blake holds a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and is currently completing his Masters in Inspired Teaching. Blake works in-person and virtually.

Danielle Lactronica, M.ed, Tutor

Danielle holds a Masters in Education but enjoys teaching one-on-one with students much more  than being in a crowded classroom. She is an Executive Functioning Coach and Tutor.  If she is hired for your child as an Executive Functioning Coach she can manages their student portal, organize their homework, and make sure the work gets done. This takes parents out of that role which often leads to power struggles between parent and child.  We want to free up parents to have a healthier relationship with their kids.  Danielle has a passion for art, travel and working out. Her Bachelors in Education was with a focus in Art.  If painting, or taking a run or walk with your child, before a tutoring session will help with clarity and focus,  she’s game for throwing that in as well.
